    Hmmm...I would think the question really is: If you drop a cat it always lands on its feet and if you drop a piece of buttered bread it always lands on the other side; so if you buttered the cat's back.........

    The state of the cat's life is not in super position, it can't be dead and alive at the same time, it is an observer. So if the cat is alive when you open the box, the cat was alive before you opened... same for if you opened the box and the cat was dead it was dead before you opened the box.

    It's not really a paradox.... he poisoned that cat and you'll eventually smell it even if you don't open the box
