IT has happened, several times, but you're right. Regarding America. But, the Fly in the ointment is, the Democratic Party, merged from the Communist Party. The Name was changed due to the Congress making it an Illegal Party. So, as all Lawyers do, they change the Question, when the Answer remains the Same. This is why America is Bankrupt! Democracies ALWAYS Fail, no exceptions. Europe learned that lesson, but they kept the name, and changed the Philosophy, to Socialism.

I don't agree that democracies always fail, rather all systems fail eventually. Because all people are fallible, all government are made of people, therefore all forms of government will suffer all the mistakes any human can make, including theocracies which are run by people too. Democracy's worst faults are mediocrity and inefficiency. Its great saving blessing is the chance for bloodless revolution. It is extremely stable. Corruption is reduced by voting out the incumbent. Tends to benefit the majority. But you get what you vote for, You're responsible for the results if you don't play your part.

Not so far - and it's not likely with our current system. It costs so much money to run for major office and independents and smaller third party candidates just can't raise it. It's too bad because the two major parties are pretty much bought and paid for.
