A question about soda's horrible health reputation...?

I've noticed that "soda", "cola", "pop", whatever you happen to call it in the area you live, seems to hold a special place on the "sh*t list" when it comes to purported pro-health proclamations. Even though many, many beverages are filled with sugar, little or no nutrients, the so-called 'empty calories", soda in particular seems to be slammed. I don't disbelieve it, I just wanna know if anyone has a better argument to justify this "singling out".

There are many. The one that will be looked at closer in the future is High Fructose Corn Syrup. Many food allergy symptoms and chronic problems will be directly linked to this soon. HFCS is a very overlooked element since it is practically in everything now. But soda drinks, pop, usually takes the place of water, real natural juice and raw milk as a meal beverage.
If you just used sugar or cane sugar, it would have less harmful effects and allow more flavor and zing of the soda to come through.

I don't care. I eat and drink what I want. Odds are I will be hit by a bus before any 'ill effects' of too much pop kick my butt!

I only drink cola Slurpees now; I've always assumed they are super healthy since they come from my favorite health food store, Seven-11.

Diet soda with no calories. Coke/sugar soda makes you fat.

I drink a lot of diet coke, but way I see it is I don't do drugs, I don't smoke and I rarely drink alcohol, so it's not doing me any more harm than they would.

soda is way too delicious for it's own good. gosh, I love soda. people shouldn't pick on something that tastes so good, they should just feel blessed that it exists.

Carbonation does deplete calcium.. I actually had an issue with drinking alot of carbonated seltzer drinks and my teeth were ******** from all the carbonation, which made them very sensitive!!

Look on the Dr Mercola site... High Fructose Corn Syrup is processed into "energy/fat" through your liver and is stored as your body's most favorite fat...

Artificial sugar causes your good bacteria in your tummy do decrease and so it lets you get fat and sick easier.

Soda isn't much worse than other drinks, such as Sunny D and the like. I think it's singled out purely out of the self-righteous bitterness of those who have given it up for the sake of their health.
