AIr France 447. Funny isnt it? no trace of a flight. What do you think has happened?

Air france not AIr france. Sorry.

Ofcourse I mean strange and ironic. I did not mean it to sound like a joke. I cannot change my question now. so please replace Funny with strange when your reading.

Back to the question - a whole plane disappears with no trace!!!! Lets imagine that it went down in a storm and into the depths of the ocean but hey wouldnt there be rubble, things floating - luggage and things that I dont want to imagine. I feel that we would find survivors....

Now I realise how big the world is.. And scenes of "Lost"keep flashing in my mind..

I don't think they had much 'fear time'. At cruising altitude of 33,000 ft, the air is so cold and thin that the passengers would have lost consciousness in seconds. I know the air masks will drop, but there was no mayday, indicating that the crew never had time to react, certainly not to deploy air augmentation.

As for cause, no way to say at present. Remember that the DC-10 was in service for 15 years and dozens of major crashes starting with Turkish Airways flt. 101 before the design flaws were finally acknowledged.

I thought about it the whole day. All all those children.
The despair of having your children with you when you know they are going to die. Feeling helpless and not being able to save them. It must be the worst feeling in the world.

Not "funny" in the least. I think the plane went down in the ocean in that storm and eventually they will find it or bodies will wash ashore just like with the other sea disasters.

By funny, I hope you meant "ironic", or "strange"....because I don't see one thing funny about a missing plane that is loaded with people.

This is damn odd! No way an aircraft like that could be hit down by lightning! It would have to be a f****** hurricane to break a large aircraft in mid air...

Let's analyse these simple facts. The plain probably crashed into the ocean in 4 or 5 minutes from 10km altitude... that's a hell of a free fall!

The automatic message system from this state of the art machine sent a dozen messages to Air France headquarters, saying in order: failiure of *all* electrical systems; failiure of the mechanical flight instruments which come online when eletrical systems fail!!!; cockpit decompression.... silence...

What in Gods name can do this to a plane?? I hope they find the black boxes... this is freaking me out!

Its sad and scary. . . More than 200 people! And sarkozy (the french president) said that the chances of them finding survivors are slim. . .

Debris were found along with a fuel slick in the Atlantic by Brazilian investigators. The place crashed.

I've flown many times and I must admit as I get older I get more nervous when there's turbulence. I always tell myself when its my time to go, its my time to go, and there's no controlling it. I feel awful for what those poor people must've felt when the plane was plunging into the ocean and the familes they've left behind. I'm sure eventually they will find the black box

Very tragic. I am sure that given time they will find it. They may have started finding some of it already. So sad.

The ocean's a big place, and they lost contact hours beforehand. There is no telling whether they stayed on route, or got off course, and how far they could have traveled in that amount of time. But, this isn't the first time something like this has happened. It is sad. But I hope for the 'Lost' scenario where they could be beached on some crazy island, where food and fresh water aren't an issue. It's far fetched, but we can be hopeful.

Well I have to fly in a weeks time, so I am certainly nervous, and it is a long haul flight and I am actually going alone.

It's a big ocean out there, but yes they have found floating wreckage now. For some reason the plane went down in an area not covered by radar. Apparently whatever happened, happened very suddenly because the pilot had no time to broadcast a mayday.

I honestly have no idea how they will be able to find the "black box" flight recorder in the Atlantic ocean.

The one consolation is that thousands of flights are made every day and this is the first incident of this type for many years.

A guy told me he thinks the airplane was abducted by aliens; I laughed at him and said "thanks for making me laugh at such a tense moment" (because I have a friend who is a flight attendant exactly in this route and by that time, I still haven't found her - now I know she's ok)

Later on, what he said made me wonder... there are so many things in this world that still remain a mystery... which leads me to another question, do you believe in extra terrestrial life? (not that I think the plane WAS indeed abducted, but I just feel curious).
