About how old were you when you realized your parent(s) did the best they could?

...or do you still think they messed up? Or did you always think they did a great job?

Around 17. I started seeing them as people... not just my parents. Then I realized that they may not have been perfect but they did the best they could and that was enough for me.

40? No, I'm just kidding. I think I began to realize while raising my own kids just how difficult being a parent really is. I think my parents did the best they could. I hope I did too.

Such a good question, because some people NEVER realize that. I was about 23 and had just had my second son. It took some maturity and having my own children to realize that my parents were human beings and not perfect. They just did the best they could *S*

16 or 17. mom provided me and my sis a good house and what not, but she was never really around and left us alone most of the time. when she was she didnt do anything. i think it was b/c her job had insane hours.

but considering she did a pretty good job.

this one set me thinking! i 've re-written this reply about 4 times!

actually cos there was domestic violence, we all were pretty empathetic and tuned into the parents.

so i sort of always knew, but i really understood the meaning of 'the best they could' once i had my own kids and found times when i couldn't provide for them every single thing i'd wanted to.
