Almost 2 years old help?

My little boy is almost 2 and is going through a slapping stage. Holding his hand back and saying no in a verry stern voice is not working. This time he hit me so hard I picked him up, put him in his crib in a different room, and am sitting here listening to him scream... Is this the most effective way of letting him know this is wrong? He laughs at spanking because I refuse to do it hard, just for noise.

The terrible twos...well we went through this when my son was 15 months old...and it went beyond two....'the terrible twos I mean...not slapping...but how about putting boxing gloves on him? get some focus mits from a sport store and give him something to hit that doesnt cause pain... they do respond well at that age to repetition and withdrawl of attention....so saying no putting him in his room and a simple phrase " we don't hit, or its not nice to hit"...over time he will get it....we had throwing things...that was really frustrating...pick it up and fling it across a room...marking walls making a hell of alot of noise...but like all things...its just a phase...distract him...I too am against spanking...do you spank him is he repeating behaviour he sees in older siblings or something like that...either way...try not to let it get to you....its very challenging being a parent...and tiring....sometimes you just need a good cup of tea and a padded room...sometimes its just the most amazing experience ....sometimes they do as my husband says just need a good smack....

so let me get this straight. you call yourself MISTRESSROXY, in all capitals, no less, but you can't control a two year old kid? is this a joke? spank the kid for real. he'll get the message.

Hold his hands down when he does this. He won't like it and will put 2 and 2 together. Mine is having the same issue.

I would not spank a kid, not because I'm against it, just because it makes them go against you even more. I suggest completely ignoring the kid, pretending that they don't even exist, neglect is the best punishment. Besides whats the one thing the kid is looking for... attention, so don't give it to them!

no spanking will only hurt him emotionally. My parent did but also beat the crap out of her brood. When I got older justhid for fear. Became 18 walked out of te house never went back again to see her. She died in 2001 was happier to hear this than knowing Bush was screwing the country.

i'm not sure that hitting because of hitting makes sense, i think time-out works best if they're hitting . for a 2 year old you'll have to place him in the time-out chair over and over, but eventually he'll "get it" and stay in it. it's supposed to be a minute per year of age. it takes a few times before the kid understands the correlation between naughty behavior abd time-out
