You don't say where you live. If you are in the U.S., in many states, especially CA, you have a lot of rights as a grandparent.<br />
Check out the local legal offices first, then tell you SIL of your legal rights and see if you can settle something with him without seeing a lawyer.<br />
If not, go for the lawyer and get your rights.
