Am i being too suspicious?
the administrator at my job says they need to cut back on staff hours and i was offered the nite off, with pay. this doesn't happen very often and never happened on my shift. i wouldn't have given it a second thought except for the fact that a nurse i work with has been cut down to working only one nite every other week, it's obvious they're trying to get rid of her, and i can't truly say that she has been doing her very best. she has given them ammonition to use against her. but that's not the case with me. do you think i'm worrying needlessly?

Exactly...I agree with Mandy. They certainly wouldn't give you the night off with pay if they were trying to get rid of you - they'd just give you the night off, and start cutting your hours. I think you're overthinking it way too much here...if you haven't done anything wrong, then you have nothing to worry about, right? Just sit back and enjoy the ride!

I don't see why they would pay you for a night off if they were trying to get rid of you.

Yes, I think you're putting too much thought in to it.

They're paying you not to work? Why would they do that? It sounds fishy to me but I can't pretend I understand what's going on.

It sounds fishy to me too. i would keep my eyes and ears open. look for other work to just to be safe and make sure you are on point at work. Dont give them anything to complain about. looks like they really are trying to downsize.

I am curious as to how giving an employee the night off, with pay, qualifies as cutting back on staff hours. I mean, generally speaking, "cutting back on staff hours" means trying to cut back on the staff expense not the actual work. So, if anything I would expect them to ask you to work over-time without pay.

I am only speculating here but, it could be that they are planning to reduce the staff down, and they know that those who are left behind (yourself likely included) are going to have to start working more hours to make up the difference. So, they are trying to give you a break now while they can so that you will be ready and willing to pick up the slack later...

You might be but the bigger question is "Why are you so scared"? If you are a reliable person who does their job well than I wouldnt worry to much but I would tell myself that if I am discharged I will find another job with out any problem. You are lacking confidence in yourself and thats bad. Pick yourself up and run with it.

why do you care about her? Goody for you though...keep focused on your own work and don't worry about the other nurse...and if that boss sexually harrasses you I'd begin to wonder...this sounds too good to be true...maybe he wanted you gone for a reason though too...who knows....
