Do you mean to make a leap of faith and believe in a God who cares, but that God cares in a universe that itself does not care?

Easy way out? You are who you are and you believe what you believe. That is all that is necessary.

Religion itself is the easy way out.

Yes and more power to you. You rely on an omnipotent, unknowable 'something' to keep your world intact, while freeing you to hop and skip about with careless abandon. No fault, no foul. Carry on, carry over, karaoke; may the light always shine down on you!

Strictly, if you're an existentialist then surely you have to believe "Absence of evidence is evidence of absence" - in other words, you missed out the letter "a" before "theist".

At any rate, that's how I worked it out, although I still wouldn't like to have to argue my position against, say, Kierkegaard. :-D

no matter what you see, it is important to see what you think and ability to process information received, also if what you saw is consistent with what you want to see

    No, I don't think so.
Would love to chat with you a bit.
I'm somewhere between atheist, theist, agnostic and thinking about it a fair bit lately.
I practise Buddhism, but not in any religious sense.

Easy way out for a pseudo-intellectual who doesn't really understand much theology or philosophy maybe. I suggest actually learning more on both subjects.

Hardly a pseudo-intellectual actually. Oddly enough I find that those who label others as pseudo-intellectuals are more often than not the ones that are lacking in any real understanding of theology or philosophy. Just for the record I have spent a significant amount of time in theological studies, not to prove my 'righteousness', simply for my own peace of mind.

It depends what you consider the problem to be. Or if it's a matter of just you and your personal beliefs you can assign yourself any label, it wont change what you actually believe.

You can call it whatever you like. But if you want to be correct and otherwise free thinking. Atheism is the way to go.

i find it funny that many belief systems consider their own to be exclusively correct and free thinking including atheism.

Lolz. This is a good point so I'll answer you this way. Logically the burden of proof rests on the believer and not the person who doesn't believe. Since the religious folks cannot provide ANY evidence for any of their claims and therefore cannot proof that there is a god (in any form) or any of that then it simply isn't true. Whereas disbelieving something because their is no evidence for it is the only correct course of action. But of course, atheism is not a belief system.

Putting your eggs in different baskets? I understand not believing in god is not the norm in the states, so daring to think differently is not so easy maybe.

Why don't you just let go of the bullshit altogether and just stop believing in superstitious nonsense. It's the sensible thing to do.

I am not going to google it... but if you picked this just because you think it covers all your bases... you will find God doesn't let you off the hook that easy.

    sounds good to me!
of course it depends on whether you enjoy/plan on having a lot of conversations where people want you to define terms, etc.

I guess that may be part of my issue, I dont mind defining terms. I seem to find that my terms tend to be more broad than most main stream religious organizations I have found.

i used to enjoy defining terms, but got tired of it ;) your terms are good ones, and you shouldn't have to justify your beliefs to anyone.
