It's actually quite un-biblical. Paul talks about how not many are called to celibacy. and it is good for a young man (or woman) to marry.

Best Answer

Seriously! Think about it this way.

A priest is not aloud to have sex or **********, but he is required to sit in a little dark box and listen to everyone's freaky sexual exploits.

ahahaha...its creepy.

Its a stupid system, The Meant for men and woman to be married not celibate. The Roman Catholic Church borrowed this system the vestal virgins and celebrate priesthood from pagan rome. Then Bible even says to be a Bishop you must be MARRIED to one women and have raised children successfully. and yet the RCC just changes it at will. The RCC is barley Christian its mostly pagan. Having a celebrate priesthood and nuns is just asking for problems.

Best Answer

No you are not. Intil 1139 nuns and priest could marry. The church is spending so much money on lawsuits they should let them.

Th RC's celibacy is a Mediaeval invention - 12C I think - and before that even the Pope could marry. There's no theological or moral justification for so turning themselves away from normal human relationships that the little committee of elderly, fallible bachelors who run the Church cannot possibly try to dictate the most intimate areas of their followers' lives.

Best Answer

the idea behind it is that the sexual energy is then used for spiritual purposes, and some actually do that. But it obviously isn't for a huge number of people.

Best Answer

I never understood that philosophy. Are you a better person if you are forever chaste? Catholics have some weird rules. But so do most other religions.

Any Irish schoolboy will tell you different.

Dont kid yourself. My fife & her family are all catholic. The nuns and preists don't do without. You wouldn't believe what goes on or with whom. But no to your question.

Best Answer

Yeah let them do it. Maybe they'll stop molesting children then.

Having attended Cathoic schools 40 yrs ago i was deeply impressed with the sisters and priests who taught me--they were selfless and caring and excellent teachers----While a celibate life is not for many---sisters and priests have yrs in seminary or noviate to decide-----They lived the gospel life and i am grateful they gave up so much for service

Best Answer

No you are not the only one as the answers above state. If they allowed marriage it would
Take a lot of the secrecy away from the catholic church and help to make it more open.

Best Answer

You are not the only one. There is abundant evidence that strict schooling by 'celibate' clergy is associated with the s_xual abuse of children in their care. If they were permitted to have it off like us 'lesser mortals' they would probably not need to exploit children. Orthodox and protestant clergy are allowed to marry. Only Roman Catholic clergy are required to be celibate and to live in poverty. This is to protect the assets of their employer against divorce settlements. It is not a biblical requirement. Jesus did not require believers or even apostles to remain celibate.

Who says they don't?
