Any advice on how to talk to someone about something extremely awkward for both you and them?

Apologise beforehand, stating that this is awkward for both of you. And if appropriate include a statement of the other persons good qualities at the end. This is to reinforce that the other person is great, but this issue needs to be faced.

Well first does it really need to be said.. is it really taring you up that much? Is it something you really should say like maybe its something thats not your business... is it a common thing but only awkward to you? Is there a way you can say attached to something else?

depending on what it is you might just not mention it next time you speak... if its really unusual he might just be afraid that you will bring it up otherwise just say is okay or something without actually mentioning it.Like (1)
