    Fanfiction.net is good and one of the most massive but never read an M-rated story, it has a good chance of scaring you for life; so is Archive of Our Own (AO3); LJ is nice but largely Russian, you might have trouble with it if you aren't fluent in both English and Russian; West of the Moon has good hobbitfics but is entirely LOtR; if you like LOtR there are lots of sites and LJ communities dedicated to it.
