Any good ideas on what to do with overcrowded prisons?

legalize marijuana and release all people serving time for pot. whether it be possession or sale, except for sale to minors.

stop sending all marijuana cases to prison and start sending the murderers and kid rapers.
send the petty crimes to fight in the god forsaken war. who cares if they run away.

Get all the 'drug offenders' out of the prison system and into 'work rehabs'. Take all of the 'white collar criminals' out of the prisons and put them into 'work camps' cleaning up graffiti, etc. with the proviso that if they even attempt escape much less succeed they go to max security. Any and all foreign criminals we deport back to their home countries justice systems with a small payment to the government and a warning that if they are caught committing a felony in the USA again it is an automatic death sentence... no matter what the crime.

Let out the nonviolent ones to supervised community service. Research all cases more carefully to find out who is completely innocent and let them out. Then for the rest, make sure the places are staffed by super humane highly trained and kind people....so that some rehabilitation can really take place. And then we can slowly phase out these hideous barbaric places. I don't expect this answer to win any prizes, but I have a feeling it really is the only meaningful answer. When the cycle of violence is finally broken, then violence everywhere will actually be reduced. Duh.

KILL, KILL, KILL!!! I want to see hangings, beheadings, disembowlments, firing squads, and make it public! Hell, let's make festivals around this. Who doesn't want to have a good BBQ while watching someone twitching in death spasms when hung and fouling themselves every way when they lose control of bodily functions. We can have fun contests where the prize is pulling the switch on the electric chair. But it can't all end so soon! We can draw the festivities out with public whippings, scourging, and humiliation.

Yes. I think this would be the perfect solution to overcrowded prisons.

Starting with the worst crimes and offenses first, kill them off, and then move down the line. Give it time, and you'll have plenty of room. Or simply build more, because at the rate we're going, I think we'll need prisons all over the place soon. People's minds have become so twisted and corrupt it's really pathetic.
