it really makes you appreciate the check out people. They are pretty fast at what they do!

No one in our store used them and so they were removed just last month.

The are really annoying when the scanner doesn't work on something then needs cashier assistance. A couple times it's been so frustrating I just left my things there and went to another store.

Yes! They're slow and difficult to use, and the computer seems to get annoyed if you don't do what it wants you to do!
There are a whole bunch in my local supermarket, and nobody uses them. What a waste of time and money.

Yes... the automated voice grates.

The bagging areas are way to small
They have recently installed about six of them in the Woolworths where I shop (Australia) - I used about twice, but there can be holdups in deciding what the item actually is and finding it in the menus... and so on (although usually there's an assistant who can help if you strike trouble).

But I prefer a normal checkout. I don't find that the checkout staff are impolite or pushy or anything - some are actually quite congenial people and seem to appreciate my friendly "vibes" that I surround them with - it must be a pretty boring job for hours at a time...

I haven't run into that at Albertson's or any of the other supermarkets. But I have encountered it at Home Depot. I don't like it! They're not paying me as a checker and/or box boy! And what happens if you don't have the cash or a debit/credit card--only checks? What's next?

Best Answer

No. I think it's an awesome thing for me when I don't feel like chatting with a check out clerk.

Plus, they are intimidating and insulting to people so it's usually the quickest route out of the store.
