I actually have assisted on these procedures when I was a student if that is any help.

Lapraroscopy refers to the technique used rather then the specific kind of procedure.

As probably told by your doctor, small incisions (about 1-2 inches) are made. usually one of these is through the navel to avoid scarring on the abdomen. Air is then injected temporarily under the skin and into the abdominal cavitiy where the surgery is being done. Once expanded through cameras and instruments throught the incisions the surgery is performed, air removed, and incisions dressed. The advantage of this procedure is less healing time, fewer complications.

It still is surgery and things can go wrong depending on the type of procedure and where you are operating in the body.

I your case, they seem to suspect endometriosis. This condition is when endometrial tissue gets outside of the uterus where it is supposed to be and into abdominal cavity, where it ends up growing depending on the flow of your hormones. The tissue usually gets there because of a complication of a C-section.

This usually causes periods of abdominal pain. This is a frustrating diagnosis because the symptoms are frequently vague and take a long time to diagnose with several blind alleys explored. It becomes a diagnosis usually when they have rulled out other causes. for instance scar tissue forming in the abdomen instead of endometrial tissue, or fribroid, or neurogenic damgage of bunch of other stuff, a lot of it quite common.

The patient is often gets frustrated because after the dangerous stuff is ruled out they tend to stop treating. Hey buddy! I'm still in pain here!.

The tissue they take if it is endometrial tissue then that should be definitive, unless the tissue was growing there and really it was something else causing the pain. After they remove as much tissue as they can, then usually hormones to destroy the rest of it. The side effect of these medications is uncomfortable, because it has to counteract the female hormones that make it grow, so the side effects are everywhere else. If they do that you are better to get the facts of the medications of the ones who are giving it to you, then look up the rest on your own.

This may seem like a long answer, but actually this is the simplified version. It actually can be more complicated than this.

I wish you well and I hope you get better.

I have had it 4 times. They usually make about 3 small holes... it causes you a lot less pain than the old way of just cutting one large cut. I have had the surgery 4 times. The ones to see if I had endometreosis they made a cut in my belly button and 2 small cuts on either side of my stomach. Its a faster healing process as well. This part aint so fun, but i reccommend buying some pads, or getting them from the nurse.. its common to bleed, like you are on your period.. i have had about 4 friends who have had the same surgeries and they all did as well. It is honestly the best type of procedure for surgery. Good Luck!
