Anyone have a good recipe for crunchy dill pickles?

Hubby's friend has been bringing us fresh cukes from his garden, but we can't even keep up with them enough to eat them fast enough. I have never done any pickling or canning, but would like to try now, as I don't want to waste these cukes. Anyone have a good tried and true recipe for a crunchy dill. I'm not opposed to garlic or even a bit of spice, just would like a fairly straightforward recipe that will produce a tasty, crunchy pickle. Thanks!!

It has links on first time canning too.

My mother used to can dill pickles but I don't have the recipe. She used quart size jars and would sterilize them in the dishwasher the morning she was going to do the pickles.

After they were canned they would be soft when first opened. But 2-3 days later they firmed up.
