Resolved Question

Anyone out there, wanting to live in nature & energy self sufficient? Would love to talk to you!?

Sorry but I ment growing own food, constructing my own energy supply (solar panels, wind turbine, hydrogen generator, and converting car to electric - no it is not less powerfull or slower than a normal car), which means not being dependant on the big energy companies ripping you off every day.

Most of you are talking about it being too expensive but it is actually much cheaper than a house or a flat in the city.

Looking for people to share info and experience.

I just got a magazine from 'Mother Earth News' which talks about the very same thing. Get out in nature - 10 miles from the nearest neighboor. Be free and have lots of money to do this, not cheap, but will have value over time.

I would! Maybe then I have nothing holding me back from actualy exploring the world that I was born in to. Maybe then I have the opportunity to look deep into myself without the whole thing about "What are other people going to say about me" thing. This way I can live a responsible life.

What do you say?

I want to but with working and being alone I don't feel as though it's possible for me. I am trying to live a simple live, using as little energy as possible and enjoy nature as much as I am able. I've cut my energy consumption (total electric) by over half.

Some of the steps I have taken:

I'm no longer using a clothes dryer except to fluff towels and jeans. I line dry during good weather and I have a room in my house dedicated to three small and one humongous Amish made drying rack.

I'm using energy efficient bulbs throughout the entire house, have taken all but one bulb out of each ceiling fan, compare to four.

I'm using candles and nightlights for walking from room to room instead of lighting up the entire room. Candles also provide some heat.

We have turned down the thermostat, are dressing warmer and keep an afghan on the ready for when we're sitting idle, keeping heavier blankets on the beds, etc.

We are eating more meatless meals, growing some of our own vegetables and spices and stocking up on basic necessities at yards sales.

It has become somewhat of a game and I'm having fun with it.

I would love to live in nature - hopefully with someone else like-minded.... At the moment, I'm living in a 2-roomed apartment in a block; not a great deal I can do about energy-efficiency, although I bought a bicycle and use that as much as possible rather than my small car. Also, I have a drying rack to put under the ceiling fan, and I use the ceiling fans rather than the air conditioner to get cool. And I bought one of those hand-operated camping washing machines that can take several pairs of undies, a couple of shirts and shorts and a handtowel - although de-watering the clothes is a bit of a hassle; I use a large salad-spinner for that, and its reasonably effective... Gives me a bit more exercise!
