I remember sitting together having our nightly meal....discussing "OUR" day, not so much. I think as a kid, it felt more like the spanish inquisition!

I remember the whole family sitting at the dinner table complaining, whining, and yelling. Fun times.

WE all used to sit at the table, but I don't remember talking about our day. Also I don't remember it as being some bonding experience, more like a process of saying 'urgh, I hate sprouts' or 'If you don't eat your sprouts you can't have jelly and ice-cream'. Rant, rave, complain. Most of the time it was just a nuisance and interfered with playing-out time.

BTW, why are sprouts like pu*ic hair? Because you always have to push them to one side before you start munching.

Yes, I did it growing up a good habit taught.

Today my whole family, who ever is around, all sit down at the table and eat together. TV goes off and we just talk about the day.

Still a good habit and nice way to end the afternoon.

Certainly takes me back to my childhood. Unfortunately, my daughter never had that luxury.

My brother is away at university at the moment, but when we are all in town we make a point of sitting round to Sunday dinner every week.

Fondly - most times. Restores my faith to hear it still exists and makes one reconsider it may even be a possibility.

No, unfortunately due to my very dysfunctional family, I have never experienced 'normal', balanced happy family life and can only wonder at what it is like. I have rarely sat in on another family doing this and it was interesting but it made me realise what I missed. Just saying what it was like as an answer.

It was never that way in my family when I was a child, but it has been that way for all the years with mine and my wife's family. The feelings of closeness and connection are priceless.

No. At the end I didn't want to sit within 10 feet of my mother.

oh, yes.

I am one of 12, and we always ate together. I do remember raising my hand at times when I had something to add and couldn't get a word in.

Yes and miss it. I miss not having a family. My husband thinks his sons and his grandson is enough but I would rather eat alone.

No, I remember sitting on the couch, eating dinner on my lap with the whole family while we watched other families talk about their day.

It made me believe such arrangements were fictitious until I found a friend who's parents were OCD enough to go through with it!
