Why so much anger toward the "Religious"/"Believers"? We don't get angry at you for not believing.

No, the fear of solitude and having to take responsibility is too strong. Plus gods are convenient weapons.

Nobody has a right to say what's a waste of a life and what's not, you're just being incredibly judgmental. And for the record, how can you say with any certainty that there's nothing out there? How do you know? Holy books are not vile fairy tales either. It's been proven only 30% or so of the population have an internalised moral system, the rest have to be enforced via law or religious structure. The less religion there is, the more pressure from laws. Any holy text preaches love and decency, and acceptance of your fellow man. And every single person on this planet should be thankful the church brought us out of the dark ages, brought education and enlightenment to one of the worst steps backward in our entire history as a species. If you want to be an atheist, surely you dont need to tell a single person?

the church and religious zealots largely created tge dark ages through rabid destruction of knowledge and superstitious disdain for anything not involving magical thinking. The burning of the library of alexandria, for example. Holy texts hardly preach love and acceptance, and when they do a few lines or chapters later, they preach the opposite. There entire function was to provide a symbol of authority to various cult leaders to exert tgere will over this 70% you say need externalized codes of conduct. The world would be vastly better off without such idiocy

Okay before we had such strict laws? Religion kept people from doing so many ill deeds. Because 70% of us will do the "wrong" thing given the opportunity. And bear in mind we live in a time of great opportunity for personal growth and development of morality, previously I imagine far less than 30% had that morality within them. The dark ages happened when the Roman empire fell, and that was because of ex-mercenary German barbarians roaming the land, undermining the already weakened Empire that couldn't even support an army of its own. When it fell every single individual who had been connected by the road and trade networks was left completely isolated, no Legionnaires defending the borders so zero law and a bunch of determined and bloodthirsty raiders who had been trying hard to break the lines when there was opposition to their efforts. The church did bring us out of that horrible time, that's historically accurate. You're thinking of the Inquisition and the Witch hunts. Yes, you have a point, that was a bad time, but it's been blown out of proportion, according to QI the number of people burned on the stake was shockingly low, it's just been highly sensationalised. If religion doesn't have a role it's only because the strictness of our laws have taken its place, which may be true but of course there are some who simply feel a connection to something we can neither describe nor understand

The basic believe in god is not nearly as devistating to our culture as organized religious ideology and the blind adherence to the illogical dogma and doctrine that comes with.
