If I believed in god I'd be scared. That thing seems like a real *******.

Job 28:28

And to man he said: Behold, the fear of the LORD is wisdom; and avoiding evil is understanding.

... You got to remember that God made all things. God is love. Yes ... it is natural to fear God. Not like a downtown gang banger you hear about in the news on the hour. Thats reasonable fear.

Fear God for his awesome power. Power to pass judgement and give you eternal rewards. The word fear is misconscrewed because of the world a little. Fear in this case means RESPECT.

We are not afraid so much as we are truly humbled.

Get it?

No because no matter what you do you can always be forgiven! Kind of makes religion a crappy moral compass!

I never understood the whole "God-fearing" thing myself.

Could he destroy me utterly? Sure. But would he? Hell, no.

God isn't anything to be afraid of.

Not only are they afraid of him/her/it, but apparently they want to convert us all so that the rest of us will be just as afraid as they are.

Sorry, but I have better things to do with my time than to be paranoid about some non-existent deity.

My Rabbi told me it's supposed to mean to fear separation from God.

If I believed in god I'd be ******* terrified. He's a self-righteous, vindictive narcissist with unlimited power and an enormous list of arcane rules (some of which might not apply, but many of which are almost impossible to follow) by which he dishes out eternal punishment or, for those who grovel sufficiently, eternal reward. How is this not scary?

I do not fear God.

I yell at Him on a regular basis in hopes that He will yell back.

That would be more meaningful to me than fearful cowering.

Not at all. If you are afraid then you do not understand Him.
