The popular image of cowboys only existed for a period of less than ten years, following the end of the American Civil War.

The West today has no culture so they latch onto the TV shows and movies for their culture. There are no cowboys in the sense of the Spaghetti Western.

My Sister moved to Northern New Mexico, When I visited her it was like going to the Ponderosa on Bonanza Tall Fir trees along with Aspens, beautiful mountains with most homes being Adobe's with large timber frames. Absolutely the picture of Western living, it seemed as thugh time had stopped in the Glory day's. The Indians are the Cowboy's. Some are Pueblo Indians that have large cattle Ranches. Most Cowboys are Indian and Spanish mix, when Conquistadors invaded New Mexico. Some still drive their cattle with horses but most use a 4 wheeler (ruin the perfect setting).

The "wild" west no longer exsists as it was once known...."cowboys and indians" also no longer exist as they were once known. But yes, they still do exist and much of the traditional ways are still held onto and practiced.

Yes, there are still Cowboys. Not many left anymore but they're there. And Most of the Native Americans have all been forced onto Reservations.

My dad and brothers are cowboys and my son is part American Indian. I'm not sure we're in the "wild" west but we're in Texas. :)

yes. but they don't shoot or stab each other, and their ride is a pick-up truck, not a horse. however, there are even a few cowboys that ride horses and round up cattle. some just ride horses for hunting or fun. there are way fewer cowgirls. Indians? yeah lots, and they're true to their heritage.
