Absolutely!! If no unions who will protect and fight for you when your employer wants to out source jobs to Mexico? When they want to cut not only pay but your benefits and make you pay twice as much for them? When you get hurt on the job, and can no longer perform the job, they do not want to continue to pay an employee who is no longer productive, even though the injury happened on the job. Who will fight for you to keep your job? When they start cutting the retirees benefits, take away their vision and dental insurance.Who will fight for them?

When my husbands company told the employees they would have to take a $2 hour pay cut and there would be no raises for 2 yrs, and they would have to pay double for their insurance. If they did not concede to these conditions they would most likely have to shut down the plant. The union got them to only make $1.00 pay cuts, the 2 yrs without raises stuck, the employee cost of insurance did not double but did go up $10 for medical and dental. Yes we took cuts, but not as bad as the company proposed, and kept everyones jobs. Would that have happened without a union???? Hell NO!

yeah, without unions, corporations such as wal mart take full advantage of their workers. do you know that the largest corporation in the world walmart does not provide health insurance for the majority of it's employees? and most of their jobs are federal minimum wage, so they make as much in a year as a congressman does in a month. Is that dumb, maybe, but when a person has to choose between medical visits and food to eat where does that leave them?

I have seen a lot of injustice in the work place. Say what you will, it happens a lot less when unions are involved.

Unions are a necessity as long as they are performing to the wishes of its membership.
Recently the employer our company is contracted to... came at us... asking us to take cuts in pay... Three months ago... when oil dropped to $30.00 barrel... we would have ... but now... At $70.00 /barrel... there is no longer a reason to give them a break. They r making huge profits... and can afford what they are paying us.
Its now in the hands of our union... to make our point clear
