Resolved Question

Are WEDDINGS getting out of hand?

Does the price terrify you?

Surely the amount you pay on a wedding could go toward

a house!

Within 4 weeks, three friends and myself got married. My wedding cost 8 thousand. the other weddings cost 22 grand, 30 grand and the final one was...hold on to your seats...84 thousand dollars! They all made fun of me because my wedding was cheap (although I don't consider anything that costs 8 thousand dollars 'cheap'). 2 of those couples have filed for bankruptcy this past year, so that speaks volumes about the current state of things.

Weddings are getting ridiculous. All that really matters is that you are marrying someone you love. It is about the bonding of two hearts and two lives. It is not about what kind of dress you have, what the caterer served and how big your reception venue was.

Lol after having just watched an episode of Bridezillas, I think yes, they can get out of hand. I have never been to an over the top wedding and don't intend to. Seems much more logical to focus on the marriage and future than all that pomp and circumstance, it's a day for crying out loud!

It depends on how many times each individual does it. It's not out of hand for the wedding planners. All of the money is 'In' their hands.

lol... my wife and I got married at a wedding we essentially just attended as the guests of honor. We were both perfectly okay with just the two of us and our immediate families and best friends going to a beach and having the 'brief' ceremony in swim suits and then spending the day in the sun. Unfortunately/Fortunately, my wife's three younger sisters and mother would have none of that nonsense thank you very much. We ended up with a big Catholic wedding, big reception, many attendees, etc. I have to say we did really enjoy ourselves, but I do regret how much money it must have cost our fathers who ponied up most of the cash.

I also don't understand mega-priced weddings.
I'd agree that I'd rather have a house or a retirement fund! But then, I'm twice divorced... first time got married at the court house with a party at home after and no honeymoon, second time we paid about $5,000 for the wedding, party AND week-long honeymoon in Florida... and I kinda thought that THAT was too much at the time!

Yes. It is just ridiculous. I was looking up the price range of wedding in my area and it says that people spend about $25k on it. I just can't believe that they are so expensive. I know everyone wants a beautiful wedding but how can we afford this? It's just not possible without being in debt. Well, speaking from an average American.

I absolutely love weddings but some of these people are absolutel insane! Bridezillas pays these morons $2,500 plus a video of their wedding to allow them to be crazy for t.v. I went to a wedding the other night that was less expensive than others..no flowers...thursday wedding and let me tell you...it was the BEST wedding I have gone to!!! The family and friends were so much fun and it really felt like a wedding to celebrate the couple not a wedding the celebrate the cost!
