The energy costs of the mechanical parts and batteries is actually much higher than if you used the area to grow trees and burn that.

I think they are great. Wind is an awesome resource to use and it makes no pollutants like other energy sources

I like the perpetual motion machines better because they don't need wind or kill birds etc. like the ones on overunity.com

About as good as having fresh drinking water. WAIT! I'm sure a friggin tree hugger will say its killing a bug or bird or changing the wind that blows pollen or something silly like that. Yet they drive their cars, flush their toilets take their hot showers and watch their plasma TVs!

There are several around me...I don't think they are bad at all. What's bad about harnessing energy from the wind? Its always blowing here anyway...
