Are you a writer? How do you get over writer's block?

I have so many short story ideas, but when I try to put them into words I always just give up eventually.

I write too and I've been suffering with writer's block off and on. It helps to just take breaks here and there.
Also put on some good mood music for whatever the type of scene you want to create.
You are the writer, it's your world. Bathe it in whatever colors you want. Embellish it with all your heart and soul. Put yourself there. Get into "The Zone" That place where you feel, taste, breathe, hear, and see everything!
As someone else said, it can help by role-playing it out.

When you get an idea either record it, write it down or type it. Make lots of notes about as much details as quickly as possible before it fades from your mind.
It's best to keep a small note pad with you and then as ideas come, write them down. Record them in audio if you have to.
Make notes, think of exactly what you want to portray in it. Detail your characters and give them a lot of attention in terms of traits, personality and just what makes them important. What is their purpose.

I hope this helped some. Always willing to help a fellow writer. :)

roleplaying as my characters often helps me. If you have no one to rp with, you can try imagining random scenarios with your characters in script form.

It can be refreshing to write something random or different and lots of times it will give you new ideas.

I also look to music, television and other stories for inspiration.

Embarrassing to say, but my only way out of writers block is to turn around and write an erotic story. That's where the 180 comes from in my username. :-)

Listen to loud music, take a drive in the country, watch a thought provoking movie.Reset your mind so to speak.

Listen to music or take a walk, try to let your surroundings inspire you, or if your working on something specific then bounce idea's off people

Have you tried outlining it first? That helps some people. When I wrote my novel I wrote a brief synopsis of what would happen in each chapter, of course it changed a bit along the way, but this way I had a guideline to get myself going. Then I just attacked it one chapter at a time.

The other thing I did when I was healthier, was set a timer on myself and I had to stay at the computer -- only on my word processing program! -- until the timer went off. I usually found that once that first hour had passed, I was actually starting to get going and enjoying the process.
