I don't mind treating myself to dinner and a show sometimes.

I enjoy my own company. But eating at restaurants with others is still a favorite for me. So both are fine with me.

If I were the type of person who couldn't go out to dinner or a movie alone I'd never...leave...the...never mind.

    hello, SharnabelleIsANinja,

doing things on my own is fine

    galleries, museums, shopping, restaurants.

    but not theatre or cinema

.............. cos i want some to talk to

    ......................feels kinda soft saying

    ............................ "did you see that...?"

    ..................................when i'm alone ;-))

    how about you, SharnabelleIsANinja ?

    with respect, from robbie

Cool. Well, I want to be more independent. I'd love to go on my own to dinner, or to go shopping, or whatever...but I'm just not able to because of my social anxiety. I can't go out anywhere by myself, I always need someone familiar with me, and even then I rarely feel 100 percent comfortable.

i will offer you what i did = set myself tiny goals... first day..go to front door, second day open the door then close it after about 10 seconds or what ever you can tolerate. next day open the door for one minute... build it up to about five mins.... next day open door, step out briefly, make yourself say something if anyone passes.. just "hello" is enough. you will have to push yourself, try to keep building on what you have already done, and forgive yourself if you slip back. do not beat yourself, for nothing is a failure... you try and that is your success. took me a while but now, i go anywhere with friends or family or on my own... each has its benefits. i drew up a list of day by day goals... small steps... the chinese have a saying "the journey of a thousand miles .................... begins with the first step" thus the first step is always the most difficult. the choice of how you live is yours .......... i made my choice when i realised life was going on everywhere.... except indoors with me... and life was not going to come looking for me.... it was waiting for me... out there, outside my safe zone... so i forced myself. have you tried person-centred therapy... helped me so much, understood myself better and better understanding. accepted myself and learned to like myself... that was hard ! i hope this is of some help to you. with my respect, from robbie
