As a customer I address cashiers pleasantly, yet with respect. I ask the same in return. I do not wish to be addressed as: hun, babe, sweetie, bud, dude, etc.

Yeah, I kind of got a kick out of it, but only if it didn't go too far.
Passes the time. I have done that kind of job and happily never felt unsafe or had creepy customers wanting more than that, just a laugh and a joke.
