Go to Meetup.com, and enter your interests. Doesn't cost anything. Hiking groups are great, biking... whatever you are into, so are they. And even if you don't meet them right away you will be enjoying yourself, and they will be getting to know you. Even if you aren't the one for them, they have friends and cousins!
