maybe it's white guilt that keeps you from liking it. It was the truth. Doesn't make you a racist though

I watched it on SHO, or one of those premium channels, it was rated as 4 "stars," tho the "greatness" of it somehow eluded me.

It probably promoted some political or racist agenda that the reviewers wanted to promote.

If it's anything like "Help!" it'll be awesome. I'll check it out sometime.

Racism all depends on what you base your opinion on. If it's based on issues surrounding race then you're racist. If you didn't like the movie because you thought the acting was crap and race had nothing ot do with it then it's not racist.

It just seemed that every white gal in the film -- except for the crusading heroine, of course -- was either an evil biatch or a complete dimwit, & every one of "the help" was wise, witty, generous, self-sacrificing, etc. Stereotypes all.

It's a story. Told from one point of view. Obviously a point of view that you're not entirely comfortable with. You don't have to like it. There's been 1000's of movies over the decades that only portrayed coloured people in very stereotypical roles. Has that bothered you as well? Or is just because white people on are on the receiving end of it this in this film? That gets more to the core of whether you're a racist or not.

I loved it and thought it was a good representation of life in the South in the 50s.

Why would that make one a racist?
