Birthdays?

every year on my birthday I get really depressed, nobody ever has time and if they show up they expect me to pay for everything, anybody else feel this way? when I was little my parents didn't have a lot of money, so it was my birthday or fireworks most of the time, and mt siblings resented it and when people came over they came for my b day but it always turned into the july 4th celebration, I got married and my husband always has plans and I always end up working or paying for everything, last year we went away he tole his family where we were at, they showed up, I payed for food party and hotel rooms and was told i was being a bixxx because I got mad, this year I am spending it at work, and everybody else went away, so I am totaly alone, mad and depressed, am I wrong to want a day on my birthday for me? I know with my age I souldn't expect much, but i feel totaly left out and alone, I always try to make everybodys b day special and I'm not asking for the world just for my family to remember me, call me, or something just to let you know, my 70 year old parents drove 65 miles to give me floweres and a cake,my 9 kids one of them emailed me a happy birthday and except for you all that was the extent of my day, thankyou all it made my day a little brighter reading your responses, and my parents showing up for the first time in 3 years on my birthday was extra nice

It would have helped if you'd told us up front that your birthday is July 4. (Happy Birthday!) My mom's birthday was 2 days before Christmas, my best friend's birthday falls right around Thanksgiving. It's luck of the draw. Naturally your birthday will be overshadowed - and you'll get a resentment. My advice as is as follows - First, move to any other country, the U.S. is the only country that celebrates July 4. Second, don't take it personally and deal with it. Third, just be happy you’re alive to see another birthday.

I have gotten a nice quiet family dinner every year since I was nine. I never did like parties.

i know how you feel. Every year I do my best to make sure everyone has a great birthday. presents, streamers, a small cake...heck a card!

my dad falls right around Father's Day, in which y husband gets breakfast in bed and hand made cards, and a cake, and presents.

usually i get a quick..."oh happy birthday" and thats it. Strating next year, thats all anyone is getting from me

That sucks! Yes, it's your day, and so should be special, for you. You should not end up paying for the treats of others, they should pay for yours. Happy birthday, and a big hug, from me to you. I know it's not much, but it's sent sincerely. X

I think birthdays aren't any good.

What if people gave you a gift spontaniously and visit because they like you?
The only way of achieving that is by doing this yourself too.

I am wondering if your anger regarding birthdays, does not stem back to your childhood. It can be difficult to feel special, when your birthday falls on what seems like a bigger occasion. Maybe you could let those important to you know how you feel, and do something a bit earlier or a bit later instead. I personally ignore my birthday and would rather not remember I am getting a year older ;) Happy Birthday by the way!!!!

Be like the Queen of England, and have your birthday celebration on a more convenient day!

Sounds like a real downer. Mayb eyou need to alter the way you look at your birthday. How about next year, planning to meet a friend and go out for dinner. No hubby, no family; just you and someone you need to spend more time with to catch up on happenings of the past year. Whether you each pay or you foot the bill, it is your event so make it yours.

Book yourself a special day/weekend at a day spa. (On his credit card) Don't forget to thank him when you come back.

Aww I think birthdays should be celebrated with dear ones no matter your age! It's your special day :) If we were in person and you'd told me that I'd try to take you out or something, hehe. But yes... My birthday is around the same time as a big holiday too, but my family still celebrate it... I hope you have better luck in the future!
