Is it even possible to stuff up a slow cooked recipe???
Even I can cook well with one of them. Just bang everything in, make sure you have enough liquid in there though

I like pork roast on high overnight cooked in several cans of mushroom soup.

If you are getting a burn, add more water and make sure the roast stays under the soup/water.

Hi. I have a slow cooker and when I make curries or stews in it I always sear the meat in order to "caramelize" it before it goes into the crock pot. You will not get those smokey flavours in the crock pot.

And like any braised meat, you have to balance the flavours. Instead of plain water as the cooking liquid, I use a can of diced tomatoes and will chop in some celery, carrots, garlic, and onions in order to flavour the broth. Half a cup of red wine or cooking sherry.

Be leery of potatoes because they can make the stew starchy and bland.

Balboaguy is right, chicken is not so good for slow cooking. Generally, leaner cuts are not suitable for this kind of cooking. Recommended: Brisket, flank steak, chicken on the bone (ie dark meat). Oxtail or shin is very good because you will get flavour from the bone and the marrow.
Good luck!

I hate slow cookers and the way they make everything in the pot taste the same. Chili tastes like chicken tastes like stew. Blech.

Triumphgirl's recipe works, cook some rice when you get home and put it over that, with a vegetable.

If you are going to be at work for 12 hours, use the *LOW* setting & it won't burn.

Chicken generally takes far less time than meat, so stick with meat

Always cook on low, use plenty of liquid. Other than that, I just toss whatever I have in the pot and it's usually quite tasty.

Hmmm we always just toss in some roast, potatoes, carrots, onions, fill it up with water and sprinkle with parsley. (Salt to taste.) Leave it on for 4 to 6 hours and it turns out just fine.

Of course there is always chili.

The only chicken I've ever tried was a bunch of chicken breasts with the same ingredients as the roast.

The problem with Crock Pot recipes is that not everything is great cooked that long. For instance... Rice:) You have to figured "What am I going to still like if it's so soft it's falling apart."

One thing I do if I have left over potatoes after the meal is just toss them all in a bowl (skins and all) throw in a little milk and take a mixer to them. It creates a mashed potato with skins and a meat flavor which I like for lunches the next day... Of course not everyone likes skins in their Mashed Potatoes so YMMV

And if you throw a lot of water in with your meat it makes a great chicken broth that you turn around and use when you cook rice normally (instead of water). It imparts a really great flavor to the rice. Or any of the six million other things you can do with meat broth.
