You forgot to say what kind of camping trip.
Camping in a tent?
Travelling on foot or by bicycle?
Inland or by the sea?
Warm climate, or hot, or cold?

Here's a list based on what I use for cycling near to the sea in a warm (UK) climate:
nylon string! mountain bike. pannier bags. two puncture repair kits. pump. bungees.
tent. rollmat. sleeping bag. head torch. wind-up torch. solar battery charger. batteries. mobile phone (with at least £5 call credit on it).
nylon string! soda bottles for keeping water in. bottle of meths. liquid fuel stove. cutlery set. sponge scourer. a couple of cigarette lighters. fishing line wrapped around a soda bottle. fish hooks of various sizes. bow and arrows (wish I had these). sharp knife made for gutting fish. wire. nylon string!
neoprene booties and gloves. wetsuit. small towel. sunglasses. waterproofs. brimmed hat. warm (beenie) hat. fleece hooded jumper. swimming shorts. t-shirt. button-up shirt. nylon combat pants. trainer socks. well ventilated trainers (sneakers, whatever the heck you call em, running shoes!). chunk of soap in a plastic bag. toothbrush. toothpaste. razors. scissors. toilet paper. anti-bacterial hand-wipes.
milk powder. oatmeal. salt. sugar. solid vegetable fat. strong wheat flour. egg powder. dried herbs. ground pepper. stock cubes. instant noodles.
maybe some 'instant' bread mix.
pipe. cannabis.
£20 in case of an emergency.
don't forget the T.P. and some nylon string.

food, charcoal, stuff that is easy to prepare, plastic everything (fork, spoons, plates cups etc) a little gas to help get a fire started, sand to put it out (or dirt at the campsite) chairs, lots of blankets and water. fishing poles and worms if u have a lake nearby and always a first aid kit. another good tip is even if u dont have reception bring a cell phone. you can stand next to your atenna on ur car and get a better signal even if it says emergency calls only. i;d also recommend flares...you can pick them up at any camping store or probably target or walmart. tell a few people when u are expected to return and where you'll be incase of an emergency and bring somehting to entertain yourself...a book or something. don't forget acar charger for ur phone.

Bring what you like. A book, a radio, bug repellent, a chair, things like that. Enjoy!

Lots of water, FLASHLIGHTS AND BATTERIES, BUGSPRAY, a lighter, sleeping bags, snacks and toys (not in a naughty way, unless that's what you like--I mean things to keep you entertained when there's not much to entertain) : P
