Yes. A person can love "unconditionally" or "irrationally".
People who claim to "love" an abuser, for instance, love too much. Relationships and love come from mutual respect and communication, and someone who tolerates abuse vales themselves too little, and others too much, to have an effective grasp on the concept of love.
(This should in no ways be meant that victims of abuse are at fault for their abuse. Abusers are always wrong by virtue of being abusive, and my sympathy and empathy extends to victims.)
