Certainly! Heck, in the most extreme possible scenario, a sinus infection could turn into cerebral meningitis which is highly contagious and potentially fatal! In fact, during its onset, meningitis often displays relatively minor symptoms such as those common with having a cold or flu.

If there is an infection, and you can tell when you blow your nose, then you need to see a doctor. It can develop into worse things than the flu.

I don't know about the flu, but a sinus infection can lead to pneumonia if left untreated for a prolonged period of time

Yes, as it compromises the immune system, any secondary infection, would then take off, as described above, especially with the meningitis.

Best Answer

It's typically the other way around (flu turning into a sinus infection). The flu is caused by the flu virus. Sometimes, a virus can cause a secondary infection. <br />

A sinus infection is a bacterial, not viral, infection and can be cleared up with antibiotics (which viruses do not respond to).

Any infection taxes the immune defenses and can cause you to be vunerable to flu virus'. Flu itself are specific virus' that you have, or have not, come into contact with. Large doses of vitimin C will boost your immune system. Your body will use what it needs, the rest will come out in your urine. Lower doses to 500m a day, but start with 2000m just for a day, or two. There is no danger.
