Can a Utopia exist?

Q&A Home   >  Hobbies   >  Fiction

Is a Utopia possible? Defined as where we can all live with no work. No money, everything is produced in surplus and sustainable. All actions are voluntary and most things have almost no cost. I figure this would be very far in the future with centuries of new technology. Or will people never be satisfied and still not consider that perfect?

No. It will eventually become a dystopia.

"Can a Utopia exist?" In your description of Utopia the answer is Yes. A framework of time was left out of the description. If a nanosecond of time passed in which the described qualifications existed then Utopia existed. But the nanosecond that want exceeds supply Utopia disappears.

The Second Law of Thermodynamics limits Utopia.

Know, unfortunately, it is just a dream. Hey you look like you could be the woman of my dreams(come true), Lets run away together and build a Utopia ( just the two of us) ; -) !!

No, aside from the fact that it is quite impossible, people are never satisfied!

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique and a swinging hot spot

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

They took all the trees and put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged all the people a dollar and a half just to see 'em

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

Hey farmer, farmer, put away that DDT now
Give me spots on my apples but leave me the birds and the bees

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

Late last night I heard that screen door slam
And a big yellow taxi took away my old man

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

Late last night I heard that screen door slam
And a big yellow taxi took away my house and my land.

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

Watch Joni Mitchell perform "Big Yellow Taxi" back in 1970

Then listen to Counting Crows sing an updated version

Both very nice! but I believe that Joni wrote the song...

Not the Utopia you describe. The reason for that is twofold....laziness and greed.
When the human race can breed those qualities out of themselves...then perhaps your Utopia will be possible.

I honestly can't imagine that particular UTOPIA existing at all. The Universe works on give and take. Karma, and bartering. I would like a more fair existance for all of us, no one "better than the other" so to say. Poor, and the bloody rich. I think we should all take care of each other, barter for each other, weather it be money, things or actions. Not to get all spiritual about it, but Utopia I feel would only exist for a single person when they become enlightened in whichever faith they have. :/ Sry for the rant.

What you describe is not Utopia. I suggest you read Plato on it.

A, the Republic by Plato. Better yet, any modern book. Populizing philosophy
