Resolved Question

Can anybody suggest a book that really forces you to think?

Books such as Animal Farm by George Orwell and,

well, pretty much anything written by George Carlin.

EDIT:
Wow. Thanks for all the suggestions!
Most of them are pretty good...
so instead of picking the best answer,
I'll let you guys decide.

Invisible Driving by Alistair McHarg. It's a mind-boggling memoir of manic depression. You should also check out his dark comedy/social satire - Moonlit Tours.

If you don't mind a seedy/creepy/violent streak, try 'Lolita' by Nabokov, 'Tropic of Cancer' by Henry Miller, or 'The Naked and the Dead' by Norman Mailer.

Johnny Got His Gun is great. It's not a "short book" but its so good that it feels like a quick read because you can't put it down and you tackle it within a day or two. Really emotional. I'm not sure if its Required Reading at schools anymore?

It should be.
