Can dogs understand human emotions and what's going on and what we humans tell them?
Me and my girlfriend recently broke up but we have this little dog that we've had since she was born cause my other dog had puppies and she was one of them. I asked her do you want Mommy and daddy to stay together. She than got up and licked my cheek.

Well, it is obvious that dogs are emotional because they show how they feel and choose who they like and dislike. They may not fully understand human language. But, they can sense right from wrong.

Yes! My dog knows when I am sad or upset or happy. She knows my hubby and I as daddy and momma. She hears and understands everything we say. She even knows what we spell. Like I started to spell out p-o-t-t-y so she wouldn't hear the word and get excited. Now she knows what that means.

Dogs can (and do!) understand much more than we humans THINK that they can understand.
They are more "in tune" to us, than we are to other humans.Like (1)

They can definitely understand emotions, since I've seen them react to human emotions in different ways.
They generally can't understand what we say though, outside of simple repeated words, as the few who can have been taught for years.
