Can I divorce my parents? Actually my whole family....?

My mother is a drama queen, she makes herself the victim all the time and creates drama between my brothers and I. My parents are visiting my brother who lives 1 hour away, I had no clue they were here (I knew they were coming but not when) now my mom is all sad and causing drama because I haven't called them or gone to see them this whole week..........how could I do that if I didn't know.
The whole situation is ridiculous, and this happens every time they come an visit, I have distanced myself from the family in the past few years, calling them only when necessary and when I have news to tell, why can't they just leave me the "F" alone, realize I have my own life to live. I want to see my parents while they're here but at the same time I don't want to keep feeding my mom's controlling and dramatic needs.

Is This A Good Question? (1)

I am a product of your childhood, Living FAR from my parents and siblings in adulthood. It seems the only time they contact me now is when they want something from me! All I can say is, Thank goodness for caller ID and demographics! They created enough drama between themselves that if it could be coverted into useable energy, it could power a small continent. Your life is your own and never lost sight of the importance of your education...the one thing that only YOU are in control of and can accomplish...Your meal ticket baby! ;o)

I know. If you ask them to get counseling or psychiatric visit and they refuse even though you suggested and asked over and over, telling you you're being ridiculous(as happened with my mom), don't bother wasting your energy, you can't change them. Give it a shot, at least 3 times, if your efforts to improve them fail go ahead and just break off contact.

I privately divorced my sister several years ago. She would insult you and then demand you do things for her like she owned you. Well after insulting me and my in-laws I refused to go to one of her weddings. It was a cause for embarrassment as many family members contacted me before and after the wedding to ask the reason for my not attending. It was like a line in the sand.

It made an impression on my sister and she treats me better. Sometimes you have to show people that you are not going to take their sh*t and follow through on it.

    Good luck.

no, but you can move farther away like i did, then you only have to see them once a year, and they'll appreciate you so much more!

Your whole family can divorce you, not the other way round. Tolerance and understanding your family members will take far, together.
