They have done research on this subject. It seems animals are aware of time of a Basic Level.
I've gathered that cats have a stronger sense of both hearing and smell than we do...yours could very easily harness those two to know you're on the way and be there to welcome you...
My dog hears when a car comes in the driveway. Mine or any other. He lets me know. But if it's me he knows the difference. He will scratch quietly at the door till I get it open.

i think they get used to a routine like we do, maybe they have a similar body block type thing, if you do something for long enough it kind of becomes second nature? maybe, im not too sure , but they are clever wee things!

Yes they have an internal intuitive clock :) .. It runs on love and loyalty :)
