Can someone explain this?

I don't know how to say it.. when you're lying in bed, ready to sleep , sometimes I get this feeling, for 3 seconds, that I'm falling or the bed is falling and after I react to it I realize that nothing actually happened..

it happened to me more than once. it happens when im about to doze off. its when im brain-tired. i can feel that my head (or my mind) is falling, then i snap back . since you are half-awake, you're not able to think clearly or evaluate what exactly had just happened.

you're brain is tired

Hypnic jerk. As far as I know it's not yet fully understood why it happens, although there are theories.

I'd say it's pretty safe to say though, it has nothing to do with souls or any other such bollocks.

I've done that.
I believe it's because our souls leave our body in our sleep and we do fall back in.
Sometimes it's scary.

I don't know. It's happened to me before too hon. I hate that feeling. Many explanations I suppose, but I really don't know. Sometimes I wake up at night and can't move for a moment and can't speak. They call that sleep paralysis, but I think there is more to it than that.

Unromantic explanation but...it's probably neurological and the sense you have of being awake is just that, as you're probably in fact drifting off to sleep.
