The toilet seat is not an issue. It is a symptom. After a while, monotony comes into every relationship. The toilet seat then becomes a metaphor.

Toilets come with a lid because it should be shut, by both men and women.

I think the toilet should be closed when you flush it to keep germs from flying all over. Fortunately, it doesn't have to be an issue for me. :)
(That's cute...a toilet ad just popped up. lol)

because at night when I have to go potty and am in zombie automatic mode and my husband has left the seat up I wind up falling in the potty.

Guys do not sit to take a leak and we always look to put down the seat when we have to take a dump. A woman sits to do both. But a woman doesn't look before sitting. So instead of just looking, they complain instead of taking the time to use common sense and look.

men think it's a simple task and you should look before you sit anyway.
women think it's about manners.
that's it in a nutshell.

In a perfect world I prefer the seat and lid to be closed, it's more sanitary. However, I don't go ballistic when the seat is left up, I just close it.

It's just polite. If I'm half asleep or not paying attention and used to the seat being down, then accidents happen and I get mad. Given I clean the bathroom I think it's mutually respectful if people also respect the fact that I'm absent minded or not alert at night, and take two seconds to put it down.

Well women are to lazy to put it down. They never put it up for us. But if we keep it down then they'll complain about pee on the seat.
