There are these people referred to as "vets".

She is evidently allergic to flea bites. Sounds silly, I know. But it does happen, if your vet didn't catch that, then you need a second opinion ! I had a dog long ago that was allergic, her little tummy was red,and she gnawed at herself something horrible.

A lot of Dogs are allergic to fleas. They scratch like crazy, develop skin sores or rashes & some will loose their hair. Having skin that's already irritated by the fleas & the scratching will get worse by putting products on the skin. You really should take the dog to the vet for a complete work up. If your vet does seem too concerned, find another vet. It's totally treatable.

sounds like allergies. Ask your vet, they will probably prescribe Pregnazone(spelling??)

The dog is allergic to flea bites it sounds like. I would go to vet, it may need meds and it may need to always take meds if the problem doesn't correct itself.

Without looking it up, I think trixiegirl is right. The usual treatment for allergies and other inflammations are steroids (words that end in -zone/-sone). Not that that's *bad* but merely treats a symptom. I've heard that garlic works wonders for some so worth a try. It works by making the animal "unpalatable" to fleas and mosquitos also. Though they may have to bite to realize this depending on the dose. Will not harm the dog to experiment with dosages of garlic. There's an old farm remedy of adding a little vinegar (like a tablespoon or 2 per gallon) to the drinking water too. Dogs may do better with that than my cats did.
My cat is allergic and I used to swear by the miracles of Advantix, but this year it had to be Revolution. I think they may develop resistance to one so switching them up may be the key to effectiveness. I always use those as last resort to a problem and not consistently for preventative measures, but then, dogs go in and out more often.

Probably flea allergic dermatitis. People can get that too. I have it. And i'm a dog groomer! But i can always tell if a dog has fleas...

When your treating the fleas use something that kills them on contact. Most products, such as flea collars and frontline wont kill the fleas until it actually bites the skin, so a flea spray would be the best to use. Plus in my opinion they work better.

Use tea tree shampoos and try to stop him from scratching himself when you catch him doing it.

But if it doesn't get any better bring him to the vets as he might need a proper shampoo.
