Resolved Question

Can someone unbiasly answer this.?

if the new health care reform does indeed get passed and there is a public option, how will this not EVENTUALLY (key word) lead to public health care being the only option. Thinking about supply and demand, if many people switch to public health care, while others stay on their normal insurance, wouldn't the public health care drive up the costs of regular heath care thus leading it to be too inexpensive for one to stay on it and not switch to public health care?

edit* what what? i dont think this question is that hard to comprehend.

Bingo....And that smart one wins a Kewpie Doll....

And that is what they want.....For us to do what they want us to do.....And become so dependent on the Government....and it being all of our own doing.....

I mean after all....That is what happened to the Germans back in the 20's-30's......and just look at what Hitler did....All with the blessings of the German people...At least until they had no say anymore....For they were fart to dependent on the government to say....STOP!!!!!!!

I really think the majority of Americans will still prefer private insurance-and the insurance industry is not going to go wimpering away. even where public transportation is readily available, plenty of us still pay extra to drive ourselves.

not necessarily. I'm good at being unbiased but bad at understanding politics. You are making assumptions based on your worries. I am sure this has been considered as a repercussion by those involved in making these laws, and there will be ways that they will address these problems due to their foresight, which I am sure if I was interested enough in politics, I could find the answer to. I think what you are describing would be an extreme and unlikely outcome. maybe one or two of those things will happen, but I know there will ALWAYS be a choice--if there ever was no choice, it would defy the constitution. Monopoly, or having only one source to purchase from, is not allowed in the USA. being forced to make only one particular decision with no other choice is dictatorship and would not be endorsed or tolerated by the USA.

As unbiased as I can answer...

When Social Security and Medicare were voted in, people argued that they were socialist policies and that they would bankrupt the government.
They were fought against with the same fervor as the health care bill. Ironically they were brought into law because there was a whole section of people who were unable to care for themselves as they got older.
With that in mind they are still very popular programs and the largest additional insurance business comes from supplementing Medicare.
I think it is time to give people a public option and for insurance companies to be more creative in finding their profits.

Also does it go against everything Jesus believed in to profit from health care? Wasn't he a healer of sorts?
I am not a believer but if I was I think I would be yelling that from the rooftops...

Perhaps it might force insurance companies to lower their costs in order to stay competitive, but I'm not really very savvy in these areas so I could be wrong. I think, though, we need to start somewhere and quit debating it to death.

You have grazed over the very problem facing the politicians dealing with this and many who are looking at this with a critical eye. No one knows what repercussions this system will have in the short-term or the long-term. There are budget considerations that will be "dealt with at a later date." Can not deal with them now because we do not know what they will be. What everyone does know and agrees with is once this is passed it will be almost impossible to turn back.
And for those who thought medicare and social security were great ideas that worked. Really they are both not only broke but way over indebt. They were great ideas but down the road they do not work. The goverment is consistantly trying to move money around to support these two and yes it is leading to the bankruptcy of our goverment. Most of us in our 40's or younger probally will not see any social securtiy, it can not be maintained. Pres. Obama has said he will take money from medicade and medicare to help fund the new program. Again the two programs are taking money from other programs now to stay open. We are taking from Peter to pay Paul to pay Peter to pay Paul and on on and on.

I agree with you, I think a scenario such as that would be likely in the years leading to this healthcare reform...that is IF it passes.

It is not certain, but that scenario could happen or effect rates, it depends on several factors. I need more concrete answers to make a good informed judgment. Right now it is a smoke and mirrors.
