Not a bad idea if you live in most westernized cultures. There are more restrictions on municipal water sources than there are for bottled water so the water from the tap is cleaner and healthier plus the production that goes into making the bottles, the shipping, and the trash produced mean that are not exactly good for society or our standard of living.

Interesting to hear that it was a legislative decission so embraced.

Let me tell you a fact.

When a plastic bottle of water gets hot from sunlight particals of the plastic gets into the water. Surgeons have found it in womens breast tissue and they think that there is some link to breast cancer.

It could be somethin to do with a health factor.

yes, bottled water has increased our landfills to the point of no return, along with pop bottles, now they're starting alluminum pouches

That guy that voted in favor really has got to have a ton of empty plastic bottles in his front garden!
Perhaps we should look at that towns problem with water bottles first, before making judgement.

I've read the article, the choice was between a public tap and a company claiming the water source and selling it in bottles.

Yes. Regarding your "predict life in 100 years" question.... Imagine 100 years ago suggesting that we would pay what we do for a bottle of water!!

Maybe a deposit is the answer. The state of Michigan has a 10 cents deposit on all carbonated beverage containers. They have the highest container redemption rate of any US state with deposits. There has been talk of extending the deposit to sports drinks and water.
