Can you help me with my Aloe Vera plant, Hercules ?

He was so strong after we re potted him last summer. He grew like mad ! We brought him back in through the winter, and he continued growing strong, thus the name !

I noticed, after taking the other plants we brought in for the winter.......back outside, Herc began looking a bit of color. I thought "Well, he's just lonely"! So I took him out side. He's doing so poorly ! Jim touched one of his "arms" and it broke right off ! I am so sad about this ! He is the only plant I've ever done well with, now I have failed again !

Is it in the direct sunlight? If so move it so that it will get indirect light. Aloe likes bright light but grows best in an indirect lighting setting. Also, if you are watering it daily DON'T... Aloe should only be watered when the soil is completely dry. If not, it will store the excess water in its leaves and then they become limp and can break if touched. if you have too much water in the soil it is best to replant it in soil that is dry to the touch. Be sure to trim back the leaves at the base and it should come back. I hope this helps. Good luck! I hope he is not too far gone and can be revived

You seem to have a problem with two elements. Sun and Water. In the winter you should have the plant ibernate and not give it a lot of water. What happen was that there was a lot of energy from within the plant when you brought it for the winter.. Like most plants espcially not indigenous to your location you need to beef up the plant just before you bring it inside and the purpose of bringing it in is to put it sleep so when spring comes it will have enough energy in the roots to continue to grow. Aloe plants are dessert plants so try to duplicate the dessert environment. In fact you don't need to bring it inside. It can survive harsh winter temps by dehydrating the leaves so it will not freeze. Good luck
