    I am very sensitie to this, i work in the mental health care profession and words like..: "tard", "doofus", "lameo" and many others are insufferable insults to those that are mentally challenged yet trying with all their might to acheieve acceptance

    I agree. I think stupid and all the others is more aimed at the people who are capable of clear thinking, but then they do some really foolish thing. For instance, peel a bunch of potatoes, wrap the peels in paper and place the wrapped peels in the fridge and the shepherd's pie in the garbage. Stupid move, made by one of the smartest people I know.
