Band Of Brothers. Tora,Tora, Tora. We were Soldiers. The Fighting SeaBee's
The Blue and The Grey
There are so many - depends on the decade. If you're into older movies, some black and white - look to the war movies made in the 40s - some of my favs from the 40s include: 49th Parallel (1941), Sergeant York (1941), They Were Expendable (1945) with John Wayne; Mrs. Miniver (1942) about the perserverance of a British middle-class family during the Blitz. .. soo many... start here and work your way to vietnam era ... (most not historical dramas tho, but they're great - Deer Hunter; Apocolypse Now...)
The Great Raid..The story of a rescue of American POWs from a Japanese prison camp in the Philippines.
The film is based on the book, Ghost Soldiers. The war was not going well for Japan and it was known that all prisoners would have been murdered by their captors.

*Just some of the BEST of the BEST that are ba<x>sed on true stories OR are inspired by true stories. You may or may not like them all. Some of them are inspiring and patriotic, others a bit dark, introspective and pessimistic. ALL of the movies are, IMHO, GOOD or EXCELLENT.
