A Beautiful Mind .. Seabicuit .. Not without My Daughter .. Awakenings (those are all pretty touching) a couple of my faves that are really serious but wont necassarily make u cry- Monster, Bully, Excorcism of Emily Rose, and Open Water

North Country, The Whistleblower, Into the Wild, Never Back Down .. not sure if they fit all the three criteria that you've laid out but they definitely are inspirational.. at least were to me ;)

Schindler's List is definitely one of a kind, because of the subject matter. But here are 2 that fit the description - 'Flywheel' and 'Fire-proof.'
