well when you are young and without kids, you have more freedom. You might be able to save more money but not likely.

The trick comes when you are 70 years old and in a situation where you either have to live with family or go into a nursing home. If you have kids, then they will be your care givers which is the best way to spend those later years. Believe me, most nursing home that are affordable still cost an arm and a leg and THEY SUCK!

If you don't have kids, then you live the last 20 or 30 years of your elderly life basically alone with no close family ties. When you are elderly you find that the friends you have basically taken in as your family begin to pass away around you. That is why having kids eventually pays off in so many ways. People need those ties whether they like to admit it or not... and you cannot replicate that with anything or anyone else. Not with neices or nephews.... It comes from having children of your own. Your children will have grandchildren and these ties will help you later in life if you nurture these relationships.

People should really think hard before they make the final decision not to have kids. There are hidden benefits that people sometimes don't foresee.

adoption is also an option BTW.

"If you have kids, then they will be your care givers which is the best way to spend those later years." I think you should change "will be" to "might be." This is not guaranteed. You might like it to be, but how would you know what your children will decide to do when you're old? You have no control over how your children will treat you. Many people do not take care of their parents when they're elderly, and oftentimes, they're the ones who put their parents in nursing homes. Two of my friends work in a nursing homes, and they say that most of them were put in there by their children, not because they don't have any children to take care of them. I'm not saying that all people will be so heartless to do that to their parents, but I think it's pretty naive how some people just assume that their children will be their caregivers. Or perhaps they aren't "heartless," but what if they just don't have the time and money to take care of you? Welp, to the nursing home you go. Just ask the old lady across the street how often her children visits her.

None that would make it worth it not to have them. Every minute I have spent with my kids is worth more that anything else in this world to me.

Never changing diapers, cleaning thrown around food/toys, cleaning every sticky thing they touched, NOT being challenged when the become teenagers and avoiding the "what did I do wrong" when they never call when they're older.
Oh, and never missing the appreciation you WON'T get.
