Could solar powered desalination make the outback bloom?

Not talking about RO I'm talking about multi stage flash type with cogeneration of electricity. As to bloom I mean in terms of agriculture like food for human beings.

no - reverse osmosis requires 800psi, which would require HUGE amounts of panels, batteries etc......PLUS the brine runoff renders surrounding ecosystems virtually uninhabitable in a lot of scenarios........sounds like a good idea - but practical application requires HUGE amounts of power and LOTS of environmental impact consideration....

freeed	Posted Aug 20th, 2009 at 4:38PM SOME of it - there is a lot of arid land which would require constant watering not to quickly revert to desert status. And the water doesn't pump itself from the coast inland, it requires a lot of energy. Rated: +1Vote for this!
